Jaipur: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has initiated suo motu proceedings regarding an incident at a coaching centre in the city's Mahesh Nagar area, where 10 students lost consciousness during a class on Dec 15. The order issued on Tuesday by a bench headed by chairperson justice Prakash Shrivastava stated that the incident "raises substantial issues relating to compliance with the provisions of the Public Liability Insurance Act , 1991, and the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986." The tribunal noted that it was unclear if any compensation was paid to the victims. The NGT has sent notices to Rajasthan state pollution control board, central pollution control board, regional officer of the ministry of environment, forest and climate change and the district magistrate of Jaipur. The case is scheduled for hearing on Feb 10, with respondents required to submit their responses a week prior. A six-member JMC-G investigation committee, comprising experts in fire safety, sanitation, revenue, executive engineering, and town planning, submitted its findings to the commissioner on Monday. Their report stated: "The exact cause of the incident could not be determined. No evidence of negligence or suspicious activity was found at the coaching centre." Following the incident, JMC-G authorities sealed the coaching centre building and the FSL team collected water samples. The committee's report confirmed that the surrounding sewage system functions properly, and the coaching centre possesses a valid fire NOC. Initially, authorities considered the possibility of sewer odours or substances entering through air conditioning ducts, as students reported smelling strong cooking-like odours before fainting. However, officials later clarified that the air conditioning was inactive due to winter conditions, ruling out the possibility of contamination through ducts. HOUSTON (AP) — Will Levis and the Tennessee Titans were far from perfect Sunday. But they did just enough to outlast the mistake-prone Houston Texans and get their first AFC South win of the season. Levis threw for 278 yards and his 70-yard touchdown pass to Chig Okonkwo put Tennessee on top in the fourth quarter and the Titans held on for the 32-27 victory. “The coolest thing about this game was just the way our team fought,” coach Brian Callahan said. “It was a back-and-forth game. Our guys did a good job of not flinching and keeping the blinders on. We’ve been in games like this before, and we haven’t been able to make a play, but this week, we made a play.” Okonkwo grabbed a short pass and rumbled for the touchdown to put the Titans (3-8) up 30-27 with 91⁄2 minutes remaining. Safety Eric Murray missed a tackle that would have stopped him near midfield. The Texans (7-5) had a chance to tie it with less than two minutes remaining, but Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 28-yard field-goal attempt sailed wide left. He fell to the ground after the miss before getting up and slamming his helmet on the field. Callahan held both hands in the air and smiled after watching the miss that allowed his team to win on a day it had three turnovers. The Texans forced a three-and-out, but couldn’t move the ball after that and Harold Landry sacked C.J. Stroud in the end zone for a safety to make it 32-27 and allow Tennessee to snap a two-game skid. Stroud threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions as the AFC South-leading Texans lost for the third time in four games. Stroud has thrown five interceptions combined in the past three games to give him more interceptions in 12 games this season (nine) than he had in 15 games as a rookie last season (five). “It’s no secret that I haven’t been playing well... I’ve got to be harder on myself,” he said. “I’m not going to hold my head down. I know I can be a great player, but I’ve got to make better plays.” Jimmie Ward had a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter and the Texans tied a franchise record with eight sacks. Danielle Hunter led the group with a season-high three sacks and Will Anderson Jr. added two in his return after missing two games with an ankle injury. But the offense sputtered for most of the game as Joe Mixon was held to 22 yards on 14 carries. “Just a disappointing loss for us,” coach DeMeco Ryans said. “We didn’t do anything well enough to win this game. Out of all the positives that we did have, there were way too many negatives.” It was Tennessee's first win of the season in a game that Levis both started and finished. The second-year player missed three games this year with a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder. “I’m really proud of Will,” Callahan said. “He’s done a lot of things to get himself back in the right place, mentally and physically. It was a really good performance.” Levis knows he can be better, but was happy to leave Houston with a victory in this difficult season. “It feels awesome,” he said. “A lot of people have been working really hard to get a win like this. I’m just happy for the organization, top down.” Tennessee extended the lead to 23-17 on a 51-yard field goal by Nick Folk with nine minutes left in the third. Stroud threw his second interception with about 90 seconds left in the third quarter but Ward’s touchdown came three plays later to put the Texans on top 24-23. The Titans fumbled a punt early in the fourth quarter and Houston recovered it. A 54-yard field goal by Fairbairn extended the lead to 27-23 with about 10 minutes to go. Dameon Pierce returned the opening kickoff 80 yards to get the Texans in the red zone. Houston cashed in on the next play when Stroud found rookie Cade Stover on a 19-yard pass for his first touchdown reception. The Titans trailed by four after a field goal by Folk when Nick Westbrook-Ikhine got in front of the defense and was wide open for a 38-yard TD catch that made it 10-7 late in the first quarter. Tennessee extended the lead to 17-7 when Tony Pollard ran 10 yards for a touchdown with about 11 minutes left in the second. Pollard finished with 119 yards and a touchdown. Nico Collins scored on a 5-yard reception with about six minutes left in the second. Levis levis lost a fumble with about 3 1/2 minutes left and the Texans added a 28-yard field goal to tie it at 17-17. Houston forced a punt after that, but rookie Jarvis Brownlee Jr. got his first career interception two plays later to give Tennessee the ball back. Folk’s 56-yard field goal, which tied his career long, put the Titans up 20-17 at halftime. The Titans were without cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, after he was placed on injured reserve with a quadriceps injury, and safety Amani Hooker, who was added to the injury report Sunday morning with an illness. Callahan said Hooker was vomiting “every time he stood up” Sunday. ... Houston S Jalen Pitre injured his shoulder in the second quarter and didn’t return. ... CB Ka’dar Hollman left in the fourth quarter with a knee injury. Titans: Visit the Commanders next Sunday. Texans: Visit Jacksonville next Sunday. Israel cracks down on Palestinian citizens who speak out against the war in Gaza UMM AL-FAHM, Israel (AP) — In the year since the war in Gaza broke out, Israel's government has been cracking down on dissent among its Palestinian citizens. Authorities have charged Palestinians with “supporting terrorism” because of posts online or for demonstrating against the war. Activists and rights watchdogs say Palestinians have also lost jobs, been suspended from schools and faced police interrogations. Palestinians make up about 20% of Israel's population. Many feel forced to self-censor out of fear of being jailed and further marginalized in society. Others still find ways to dissent, but carefully. Israel's National Security Ministry counters that, “Freedom of speech is not the freedom to incite.” Israel says rabbi who went missing in the UAE was killed TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israel says the body of an Israeli-Moldovan rabbi who went missing in the United Arab Emirates has been found, citing Emirati authorities. The statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office on Sunday said Zvi Kogan was killed, calling it a “heinous antisemitic terror incident.” It said: “The state of Israel will act with all means to seek justice with the criminals responsible for his death." Kogan went missing on Thursday, and there were suspicions he had been kidnapped. His disappearance comes as Iran has been threatening to retaliate against Israel after the two countries traded fire in October. Israeli strike kills Lebanese soldier and wounds 18 as Hezbollah fires rockets at Israel BEIRUT (AP) — An Israeli strike on a Lebanese army center has killed one soldier and wounded 18 others. The Hezbollah militant group meanwhile fired around 160 rockets and other projectiles into northern and central Israel on Sunday, wounding at least five people. Israeli strikes have killed over 40 Lebanese troops since the start of the war between Israel and Hezbollah, even as Lebanon's military has largely kept to the sidelines. The Israeli military expressed regret over the strike, saying it occurred in an area of ongoing combat operations against Hezbollah. It said it does not target the Lebanese armed forces and that the strike is under review. The rising price of paying the national debt is a risk for Trump's promises on growth and inflation WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump has big plans for the economy. He also has big debt problem that'll be a hurdle to delivering on those plan. Trump has bold ambitions on tax cuts, tariffs and other programs. But high interest rates and the price of repaying the federal government’s existing debt could limit what he’s able to do. The federal debt stands at roughly $36 trillion, and the spike in inflation after the pandemic has pushed up the government’s borrowing costs such that debt service next year will easily exceed spending on national security. After Trump's Project 2025 denials, he is tapping its authors and influencers for key roles WASHINGTON (AP) — During the campaign, President-elect Donald Trump had hailed what would become Project 2025 as a conservative roadmap for “exactly what our movement will do." Trump pulled an about-face when Project 2025 became a political liability. He denied knowing anything about the “ridiculous and abysmal” plans, even though some were written by his former aides and many allies. Now, after winning the 2024 election, Trump is stocking his second administration with key players in the effort he temporarily shunned. Trump has tapped Russell Vought for an encore as director of the Office of Management and Budget; Tom Homan, his former immigration chief, as “border czar;” and immigration hardliner Stephen Miller as deputy chief of policy. Forecasts warn of possible winter storms across US during Thanksgiving week WINDSOR, Calif. (AP) — Forecasters in the U.S. have warned of another round of winter weather that could complicate travel leading up to Thanksgiving. California is bracing for more snow and rain this weekend while still grappling with some flooding and small landslides from a previous storm. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for California's Sierra Nevada through Tuesday, with heavy snow expected at high elevations. Thousands remained without power in the Seattle area on Saturday after a “bomb cyclone” storm system hit the West Coast earlier in the week, killing two people. Parts of the Northeast and Appalachia also began the weekend with heavy precipitation. The government and Interior Ministry made the announcement on X, which is banned in Pakistan. Sunday's protest is to demand Khan's release. He has been in prison for more than a year but remains popular. His supporters rely heavily on social media and messaging apps to coordinate with each other. Pakistan has already sealed off Islamabad and shut down major roads and highways connecting the city with Khan's power bases. Here's what to know about the new funding deal that countries agreed to at UN climate talks BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) — In the wee hours Sunday at the United Nations climate talks, countries from around the world reached an agreement on how rich countries can cough up the funds to support poor countries in the face of climate change. But it’s a far-from-perfect arrangement, with many parties still unsatisfied but hopeful that the deal will be a step in the right direction. Japan holds Sado mines memorial despite South Korean boycott amid lingering historical tensions SADO, Japan (AP) — Japan has held a memorial ceremony near the Sado Island Gold Mines despite a last-minute boycott of the event by South Korea that highlighted tensions between the neighbors over the issue of Korean forced laborers at the site before and during World War II. South Korea’s absence at Sunday’s memorial, to which Seoul government officials and Korean victims’ families were invited, is a major setback in the rapidly improving ties between the two countries, which since last year have set aside their historical disputes to prioritize U.S.-led security cooperation. Chuck Woolery, smooth-talking game show host of 'Love Connection' and 'Scrabble,' dies at 83 NEW YORK (AP) — Chuck Woolery, the affable, smooth-talking game show host of “Wheel of Fortune,” “Love Connection” and “Scrabble” who later became a right-wing podcaster, skewering liberals and accusing the government of lying about COVID-19, has died. He was 83. Mark Young, Woolery’s podcast co-host and friend, said in an email early Sunday that Woolery died at his home in Texas with his wife, Kristen, present. NICEVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Aaliyah Nye scored 15 points and No. 23 Alabama coasted to an 83-33 win over Alabama State on Monday at the Emerald Coast Classic. Sarah Ashlee Barker and Karly Weathers both added 12 points for the Crimson Tide (7-0). Zaay Green had 11. Barker, Weathers and Green combined to go 12 of 16 from the field as Alabama shot 51% and made 23 of 34 free throws. When Horace Roberts Jr. was freed after 20 years in prison following his conviction for the murder of a Jurupa Valley woman he did not commit, he emerged into a changed world. Among the innovations occurring while Roberts was behind bars from 1998 to 2018 was the improvement of DNA technology that allows investigators to identify criminal suspects more precisely and from smaller sample sizes. That technology sprung Roberts from his “lion’s den” and pointed authorities to three men who were convicted of killing Terry Cheek, Roberts’ former mistress, and who are scheduled to be imprisoned in January. Roberts testified against the men who not only let Roberts take the fall for the crime but also framed him. “I was relieved,” Roberts, 66, said in a recent interview about his post-prison life from his home in South Carolina. “I was just glad that they were found guilty of what they did.” While Roberts now says “I feel good about where I am” and an $11 million payout in 2021 from Riverside County to settle his wrongful-incarceration lawsuit has eased the transition, the return to a society that had moved on without him was initially difficult. Roberts would wake up at night and wonder whether he was still sleeping in a cell. “When I was in prison you had to think one way, and that was always survival. I had to put on this brave face and just stand my ground. When I got out, it’s different. It’s kind of hard to let my guard down and show that fear,” he said. “Getting around by myself, I was scared,” Roberts said. “Scared to move around; I didn’t know how to react to that. I had not been just locked up but locked in. I had to learn how to go about and do things, shop, and not only that but interact with people on the outside.” Michael Semanchik, who as an attorney for the California Innocence Project took up Roberts’ case and who now leads The Innocence Center, has seen others struggle to adapt after long prison stays. “It’s pretty common when people come home that they don’t like to be in big crowds, they keep their backs to the walls,” Semanchik said. “It’s an ingrained prison mentality that takes years to get past. Choices are so severely limited in prison. Horace could go to the commissary but there are like two types of toothpaste, and clients go into CVS and see 50 types of toothpaste, and that is overwhelming.” But Roberts was quickly able to surround himself with family members who he said “100%” believed he was innocent. Because his wife, Debra, moved east across the country with the 7-year-old twins and a 17-year-old stepdaughter to be closer to family, Roberts never saw his children during his incarceration in several California prisons. So it was an emotional moment when Roberts reunited with his children — now all grown up — at an airport. And yes, Debra waited for him. “It was pure joy. Tears of joy,” Roberts said. “It was like we had never left each other because we were able to communicate with them. I just wanted to be able to see them. I wouldn’t have traded that moment for the world.” Roberts acknowledged that he had some catching up to do in other areas. There was the creation in 2007 of a device that flummoxed Roberts, a computer that fits in your pocket with all sorts of gizmos embedded in it that can even make and receive phone calls. The iWhat? “A lot about these cell phones have changed,” Roberts said. I don’t know how to do anything other than (call and) answer, and I do a little texting. That technology, I’m 20 years behind it.” History also changed as Roberts watched from his cell block. Barack Obama, the first Black president, served two terms. “It was a proud moment for me, but also the Black race,” Roberts said. “Who would have thought we would have lived to see a Black president?” Donald Trump, who starred in the reality show “The Apprentice” while Roberts was imprisoned, had a new job — president of the United States — at the time Roberts was freed. Roberts lamented that he returned to a less-respectful and more angry society. Twice when he worked as a garbageman following his release, Roberts said, teens pulled guns on him over minor disputes. “Old fool, get out of the way,” one said, according to Roberts. “Things are too fast out there for these young people,” Roberts said. “They are too quick to react and not think. ... I never knew teenagers were like they are now. They would rather pick up a gun than put up two fists. It’s hard for me to relate to that.” As for that new DNA technology, Roberts is grateful that his attorney seized upon it to help him win his freedom. “Without Mike Semanchik and his (California) Innocence Project, I’d probably most likely still be in jail,” Roberts said. That day, Cheek, according to testimony, was driving Roberts’ pickup, which she sometimes borrowed. But she never arrived at Roberts’ apartment. The pickup was found abandoned on the shoulder of the 15 Freeway about two miles from Lee Lake near Corona, where Cheek’s body was discovered on rocks several days later. Investigators zeroed in on Roberts, even though court records showed Cheek was going through a messy divorce with Googie Rene Harris Sr. Roberts didn’t help himself, trying to cover up his affair with Cheek when questioned by investigators and lying about his whereabouts the night she disappeared. Relatives of Cheek claimed to have found a distinctive black purse belonging to Cheek in Roberts’ apartment when they gathered her belongings. And Roberts mistakenly claimed ownership of a watch found near Cheek’s body. Roberts was convicted after a third trial and sentenced to life in prison. Harris Sr. testified in at least two of the trials and again at Roberts’ parole hearings. In 2013, Semanchik submitted DNA evidence that revealed a match with Googie Rene Harris Jr., who was Cheek’s stepson. DNA found under Cheek’s fingernails belonged to Joaquin Latee Leal III — Harris Sr.’s nephew — according to testimony. Prosecutors said Harris Sr. and Leal strangled Cheek in her garage as she left for work because Harris Sr. was concerned that his wife would take the home from him in the divorce. They loaded the body into the pickup and Harris Jr. and Leal took Cheek to the lake. The Harrises and Leal were charged with murder — and Harris Sr. with a sentencing enhancement of murder for financial gain — and Roberts was declared factually innocent . Harris Sr. and Leal were convicted of murder in August; a jury recommended that Harris Sr. — who still maintains his innocence — receive the death penalty and Leal be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. A judge is scheduled to rule on their sentences on Jan. 10. Harris Jr., who testified against Leal and his father, pleaded guilty to accessory to a felony and is scheduled to report to jail in January to serve a one-year sentence. Roberts stayed the night in a cottage in San Diego the day he was freed. “The first thing that following day, I got up, walked outside and I looked up and I was so thankful and grateful for that moment, just to be able to get out and do what I wanted to do and not have someone directing me on what they want me to do. It was so peaceful, and I enjoyed that peace,” Roberts said. Roberts said he likes keeping things simple these days. He lives in Ladson, about 20 miles from Charleston, with Debra and their grandchildren, ages 3, 4 and 9. Roberts used the lawsuit settlement from Riverside County to purchase a home and a couple of cars. He said he has no interest in traveling the world, even though he can afford it. One of his big goals was to learn taekwondo; He said he will receive a black belt in the martial art in March. “It was easy to come home and it seemed like I fit right in,” Roberts said. “Home is where my heart is, anyway. Being home keeps me rooted and grounded. I don’t have to go outside of that and do too much or want anything. It’s all right here. “I am in the right place, I believe,” Roberts said.Thieves Get a Taste for Cheese and Butter Amid Surging Prices
Brawl erupts in Serbian parliament BELGRADE: Scuffles broke out in the Serbian parliament on Monday after opposition legislators raised banners accusing the ruling coalition of trying to shirk responsibility for the collapse of a train station roof that killed 15 people earlier this month. Radomir Lazovic of the opposition Green-Left Front party placed a picture of a red hand captioned ‘you have blood on your hands’ on the speaker’s platform, video footage from the N1 television station showed. The health minister, Zatibor Loncar, approached him and started arguing. Other deputies rushed in front of the speaker’s platform shouting, pulling and hitting one another. The opposition deputies shouted: “killers, killers”. Some held a picture of the president, Aleksandar Vucic with red hands up and a sign saying: “No one is to be blamed”. The disaster at the recently renovated train station in Novi Sad has turned into a protracted political headache for Vucic and his ruling party, who the opposition and many ordinary citizens accuse of nepotism and corruption - charges the politicians deny. Twelve people, including a former minister were arrested over the incident last week, but that has failed to alleviate the pressure. The opposition says authorities waited too long to act against potential perpetrators. The parliament was due to debate the 2025 budget on Monday, but the opposition demanded a debate on the disaster. They also filed a no-confidence motion against the government, although the parliament speaker, Ana Brnabic, said it would not be on the agenda on Monday.Right after the Washington Commanders put together a 69-yard touchdown drive in two minutes and fourteen seconds to cut down the Dallas Cowboys ' lead to 20-17, returner KaVontae Turpin brought their momentum to a halt with a wild 99-yard kickoff return touchdown. It seemed like a broken play at first, as Turpin fumbled the ball only to pick it up, run one way, hit the kicking team with a nasty spin move to teleport himself into a whole lot of open field as he turned on the engines to show off his elite speed. 99 YARDS TO THE @KaVontaeTurpin was gone!! : #DALvsWAS on FOX : Stream on NFL+ https://t.co/LvklCbYJ1e pic.twitter.com/4ckMWDEDPL Turpin revealed his thoughts about the play postgame as he revealed his running to the right was part of the plan from the start. "I always do it when I've got nowhere to go and I'm in trouble, so I know I can just get them going one way then just spin back the other way," Turpin told reporters . Turpin's talent was in full display on the play, as it wasn't all speed nor elusiveness in play. Rather, he saw it all play out in slow motion before executing. "I would've thought about just going and getting down but when I (saw) all of them going to the left, I just knew I can just bring the spin move, that's something nobody had ever seen before and hopefully I can get them from the backside," Turpin said about what he was thinking during the play. "And I just slipped right through." The craziness of the game didn't quite stop there, as the Commanders went on to score a touchdown and miss a PAT, a sequence followed by an onside kick return for a touchdown from Juanyeh Thomas to make it 34-26. But it'll be Turpin who goes home with the highlight of the day as the Cowboys get to take a deep breath after improving to 4-7. One of the hottest stocks this year has been Palantir (NYSE: PLTR) . The company's strong results and inclusion into the S&P 500 have helped its stock soar more than 250% this year, as of this writing. While the stock has been a great performer this year, the question on many investors' minds is whether the stock is still a buy after its big gains this year. Let's take a closer look at both the buy and sell cases regarding Palantir stock to help you decide. Start Your Mornings Smarter! Wake up with Breakfast news in your inbox every market day. Sign Up For Free » Accelerating growth is the anchor to the buy case for Palantir Palantir has established itself as one of the leading data gathering and analytics companies in the world through its work with the U.S. government, with such mission-critical tasks as fighting terrorism and tracking COVID-19 cases. However, the company's Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) and its move into the commercial sector are the biggest reasons to be bullish on the stock. The company has seen its growth in the U.S. commercial sector explode in recent quarters, as it continues to add more and more commercial customers who are attracted to its AI platform and the various use cases it can be used for across industries. Last quarter, Palantir's U.S. commercial revenue surged 54% to $179 million, with it saying that AIP was seeing "unrelenting AI demand" among these customers. Its U.S. commercial customer count, meanwhile, grew 77% year over year, while its total contract value (TCV) jumped 37% to nearly $300 million. The company has also been seeing accelerating growth with its largest customer, the U.S. government, which has begun embracing its AI offerings. U.S. government revenue climbed 40% last quarter to $320 million. The company said it is starting to see every aspect of government, including the White House, Congress, Defense, and Intel agencies, begin to embrace the application of large language models (LLMs). The biggest opportunity for Palantir going forward, however, is moving customers from AI prototype work into production. Right now, the company is landing a lot of new customers, but the bigger opportunity will come when it starts expanding within these customers. The company already has a strong net dollar retention rate, which came in a 118% last quarter. This measures how much revenue came from existing customers that have been with the company for more than a year, minus any customer churn. However, Palantir's net dollar retention does not include growth from customers added within the past 12 months, and this is where the big growth opportunity lies. Palantir has added a lot of new AIP customers over the past year for early AI prototype work, and expanding within these newer customers will really give it an opportunity to continue to accelerate its revenue growth moving forward. And accelerating revenue growth can lead to a higher stock price. Valuation and executive selling anchors the sell case for Palantir While Palantir has proven itself to be a great company, whether its stock is a buy is a totally different question. While great companies typically don't trade at bargain-basement prices, valuation does still matter. And valuation is the biggest knock on Palantir's stock. The stock now trades at a forward price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of about 40 times next year's analyst estimates. Taking out its net cash and using an enterprise value to sales multiple (EV/S), it still trades at 39 times. At the peak of software-as-a-service (SaaS) valuations, SaaS stocks traded at a 19.4 EV/S multiple while growing revenue in the low 30% range, which is just below the 30% growth that Palantir recorded last quarter. Meanwhile, Palantir executives and other insiders also appear to recognize the valuation heights to which the stock has climbed, with a number of them unloading shares in recent months, including CEO Alex Karp. Karp has been a regular seller of Palantir stock in recent years, but he has greatly picked up his selling since September. Over the past few months, he's exercised options and sold stock on four separate occasions, selling more than 33 million shares for gross proceeds of more than $1.6 billion. Meanwhile, chairman Peter Thiel sold over $1 billion in stock in September and early October, while numerous other insiders have been selling shares as well. The verdict In the case of Palantir, I'd follow what the company executives are doing. It's a great company, but its valuation is now twice what peak SaaS valuations were just a few years ago, with a similar growth rate. As such, I would not be a new buyer of the stock, and I think investors should at the very least consider taking some profits in the stock after a very strong run. Don’t miss this second chance at a potentially lucrative opportunity Ever feel like you missed the boat in buying the most successful stocks? Then you’ll want to hear this. Miami announced on Friday that Butler will miss at least two more games for them — a back-to-back road set on Saturday against the Atlanta Hawks and on Sunday against the Houston Rockets. The six-time All-Star has not played for the Heat since exiting a Dec. 20 game against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first quarter because of a stomach illness. Butler also turned his ankle in the early going of that game before exiting. He then missed a Dec. 21 game against the Magic due to illness and games on Dec. 23 against the Nets and Dec. 26 against the Magic due to what the Heat called “conditioning” reasons. Now Butler is set to miss another two games, bringing his total to five and counting. For Butler, who will not even be traveling with the team on their weekend road trip, this comes amid widespread trade rumors circulating about him. On Christmas Day, a report emerged stating that Butler would prefer a trade from the Heat ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline. Miami president Pat Riley then came out with a public statement in an attempt to quash those rumors . A five-game absence for Butler due to an illness right in the middle of all of the rumors will certainly raise a lot of eyebrows though. Butler and the Heat do both have incentive to preserve his value (Butler to increase the chances of a trade and the Heat to maximize a potential return package), so perhaps that is playing a factor here.
