A POPULAR chocolate brand has been slammed by unsatisfied shoppers after they found a day blank in all their advent calendars. Tony's Chocolonely made the bold decision to keep door 10 of their beloved yearly Christmas treat empty with fans saying the reason why is "woke". The Dutch brand were trying to raise awareness of the inequality cocoa farmers face in the chocolate supply chain through the act. But those who forked out £14.99 for the 24 day chocolatey calendar were less than impressed with the marketing ploy. Behind the 10th door was a QR code and a message reading: "Not much to find in there, huh? Bummer! "Cos the cocoa industry is unequally divided, so is our calendar." read more in advent calendar Many quickly voiced their complaints over a friendly advent calendar , often purchased for children, making a political statement. One said: "Sorry I know it’s activism but if I opened my calendar and the door was empty it would ruin my day." Another said opening up the door was "such a let down". A third simply wrote: "Woke nonsense." Most read in Money Others also referenced how the confectionery company has used the same tactic in the past. They were made to apologise in 2021 for causing "confusion and disappointment" among shoppers. One commented on social media this week following the backlash saying: " That's why I've got a Cadbury one. I want daily chocolate, not preaching to ." Addressing the issues, a statement on the Tony's Chocolonely 's website read: “Big chocolate companies make big profits, while cocoa farmers aren’t paid enough for their cocoa. " The result? Many of them still live way below the poverty line.” "The bitter truth is 1.56 million children in cocoa-growing families are involved in child labour in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. "At Tony’s, we exist to change that. By chomping on our choc, you’re helping us break the mould to end exploitation in cocoa, bar by bar, bite by bite." This time around, to make up for the missing day, an additional two chocolates are actually included on day nine in the calendar. This means there are actually 25 sweet treats inside. Some saw the positives from the situation and regarded the bold move as "quite clever" for raising awareness. The nearly £15 is often regarded as a top ranged advent treat in the UK with it often selling out across several stores. Dubbed a big countdown calendar it contains 225g of chocolate in 10 different flavours. Each one comes in a mini size with the 9th and 24th having two bars inside. Worst value advent calendars revealed Not all advent calendars are made equal with some offering never-before-seen treats inside and others giving shoppers a chance to buy bulk items all at once for a slashed price. Some, on the other hand, are not quite as good value for money . The Walkers advent calendar is £10 from Iceland and features 24 doors with a pack of crisps in each. However, you can get a multi-pack of 20 bags for £4.85 also from Iceland . It means that if you bought two packs, you would get 40 bags of crisps - almost double the amount in the calendar, for a lower price. The Lindt 5ft advent calendar certainly stands out. But at £180 at Costco , it doesn't come cheap. Each of the 24 doors contains a full-size Lindt chocolate treat including gold reindeer and bears, as well as 200g boxes of Lindor. However, £180 for 24 days works out at £7.50 a window. READ MORE SUN STORIES You can even get an advent calendar for your cat these days with one from Lily's Kitchen costing £9.99 for 24 days of treats. However, the calendar almost four times more expensive than a normal pack of treats from the same store. Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how you can save money on your Christmas shopping. Limit the amount of presents - buying presents for all your family and friends can cost a bomb. Instead, why not organise a Secret Santa between your inner circles so you're not having to buy multiple presents. Plan ahead - if you've got the stamina and budget, it's worth buying your Christmas presents for the following year in the January sales. Make sure you shop around for the best deals by using price comparison sites so you're not forking out more than you should though. Buy in Boxing Day sales - some retailers start their main Christmas sales early so you can actually snap up a bargain before December 25. Delivery may cost you a bit more, but it can be worth it if the savings are decent. Shop via outlet stores - you can save loads of money shopping via outlet stores like Amazon Warehouse or Office Offcuts. They work by selling returned or slightly damaged products at a discounted rate, but usually any wear and tear is minor.LILONGWE, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Huawei Malawi says it is committed to investing more in Malawian youth to ensure that the country's future workforce is equipped with the skills to lead in the digital age. Gu Mu, Huawei Malawi managing director, made the remarks in a written interview with Xinhua Monday, following the Malawian team's victory in the Regional Tech4Good Challenge that was recently held in China, under Huawei's Leadership, Employability, Advancement, Possibility (LEAP) Program. This year's LEAP took place in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, from Nov. 18-23, and a team of five undergraduate Malawian students scooped the first position, beating contestants from more than 20 countries who competed in the Sub-Sahara Africa regional competition. The Malawian team, comprising science students from the University of Malawi, Mzuzu University, Malawi University of Business and Applied Science, and Malawi University of Science and Technology, came home on the weekend. Gu also expressed happiness with the Malawi team's outstanding performance, pledging Huawei's support to the team as they prepare for the Global Competition in China next year when the team will compete with other winning teams from other regions across the globe. "We are so proud of the five students from Malawi who put the country on the map by being crowned the Regional Champions of this year's Sub-Sahara Tech4Good Challenge," said Gu. "Huawei's commitment to Malawi's digital future aligns with the country's Vision 2063, which recognizes that the youth is one of Malawi's greatest assets." The managing director also described the LEAP program as the company's way of supporting Malawi's vision by "giving young people the tools, knowledge, and confidence to excel in the digital economy."golden empire jili slot

MUMBAI: Shashi Ruia , cofounder of the metals-to-technology conglomerate Essar Group , passed away at the age of 81 in Mumbai late on Monday night. Ruia, a first-generation entrepreneur, co-founded Essar with his younger brother Ravi Ruia in 1969. It was a maiden venture to build a breakwater project at the Chennai Port, a first for an Indian company, and since then Essar has delivered infrastructure construction projects across India's major ports. In the following two decades the group moved into the energy sector , steel , power and telecommunications. It built one of India's largest telecom operator with Hutchison , a business that it later exited. Under Ruia's stewardship, Essar withstood significant challenges - when insolvency proceedings were initiated to recover unpaid loans. It sold some of its assets to clear debts and reinvented itself. The group currently manages assets worth $9.6 billion across a string of energy, infrastructure, and technology ventures. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in a message on social media platform X: "Shri Shashikant Ruia Ji was a colossal figure in the world of industry. His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence transformed the business landscape of India. He also set high benchmarks for innovation and growth." BAM-T has pulled its €6.45-billion ($9.5-billion) offer to take Spanish drug maker Grifols SA private after failing to agree on the purchase price, walking away from the specialist pharmaceutical company that has expanded its business into Canada. The private equity arm of Brookfield teamed up with the founding family behind Grifols to table a non-binding joint proposal to the Grifols board earlier in November, after months of negotiations. The proposal and its tentative offer price was publicly disclosed on Nov. 19, but Grifols resisted the takeover, suggesting the offer significantly undervalued the company. The deadlock over the offer price came after months of talks and work to raise financing for a deal, and in spite of support from the Grifols family, who own nearly 30 per cent of the multinational pharmaceutical company’s shares. Grifols specializes in producing blood plasma-based products, which are part of life-saving medicines used to treat people with compromised immune systems from cancer treatment, autoimmune disorders or other reasons. Its push into Canada has included a controversial partnership with Canadian Blood Services to pay plasma donors, even though the national charity typically relies on voluntary donors. “After extensive due diligence,” and considering the company’s reaction to the potential offer, “this morning Brookfield informed the Grifols Transaction Committee that in the current circumstances it is not in a position to continue with a potential offer for Grifols,” Brookfield said in a regulatory statement on Wednesday. Spokespeople for Grifols did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But a Grifols family spokesperson confirmed Brookfield’s withdrawal to Reuters News, citing “a discrepancy over the price.” It is not clear if talks could be rekindled or if Brookfield could consider making a new bid. Grifols shares fell 9 per cent to €9.69 on a Spanish stock exchange on Wednesday. Bloomberg News first reported Brookfield’s decision to withdraw its proposal. Grifols became an attractive takeover target earlier this year after a short-seller, Gotham City Research, accused the company of overstating its earnings and understating its debt, contributing to a plunge in the company’s share price. The company denied wrongdoing but made changes to its governance, leadership and regulatory reporting. In spite of that pressure from investors, Grifols has a strong position in the health care market after years of rising demand from a number of countries for immunoglobin, which is used to treat sick patients. It is one of only three major global companies that specializes in plasma. The Spanish company has pushed into new countries including Canada and Egypt by striking public-private partnerships, a strategy that sets it apart from its main rivals, Australia’s CSL Ltd. and Japan’s Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. Grifols’s status as an agent for Canadian Blood Services helped it sidestep a ban on paying for plasma in Ontario, but other provinces such as British Columbia have resisted allowing it to operate. Both Oklahoma and Providence are hoping they'll have key pieces back in place when the two undefeated teams square off in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis on Wednesday in Paradise Island, Bahamas. The Friars (5-0) are expected to have Bryce Hopkins available, according to a report from Field of 68. Hopkins was averaging 15.5 points and 8.6 rebounds last season before suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament Jan. 3. He returned to full-go practices last week, and Tuesday, Providence coach Kim English said Hopkins would be a "game-time decision" against the Sooners. "It's been a process," English said. "We're not rushing it." But English praised Hopkins' progress since the Friars' last game, Nov. 19, when Hopkins went through pregame warmups. "I thought he looked better than I remembered," English said. "He's been in our system for the past year. His patience, his understanding, his versatility on offense and defense ... it's been great to see him in practice." The Sooners (4-0) are hopeful that they'll get Brycen Goodine back. Goodine played for the Friars for two seasons from 2020-22 before transferring to Fairfield for two seasons and then to Oklahoma this offseason. Goodine suffered an ankle injury in the Sooners' opener Nov. 4 and has not played since. "He's a really tough kid and trying to push through it," Oklahoma coach Porter Moser said. "It will truly be one of those game-time decisions. He hasn't gone a full practice yet, just been pieces of practices." Playing with Goodine and Jadon Jones, expected to be two of the Sooners' top outside shooters, Moser said he's learned plenty about his team's offense. "When you're down those shooters, it's really a great weapon to know that a lot of other guys can knock down the open shot," Moser said. "It's been a huge takeaway." The Sooners have been led by Jalon Moore, who is averaging 18.8 points per game, and freshman Jeremiah Fears, who is averaging 15.5. Providence has been led by senior guard Bensley Joseph, who is averaging 11.8 points and 4.0 assists per game. Oklahoma has not played a game closer than 16 points yet this season, with an average margin of victory of 24 points. Providence has won its five games by an average of nearly 17 points per game. The teams will square off against either Davidson or No. 24 Arizona in the second round Thursday, with the winners playing each other in one semifinal while the losers play in a consolation semifinal. --Field Level Media
