It is very funny how there was a time when our kids would be at home and we would be on the screen. Suddenly, it was the other way around because I was home watching my daughter on-screen. It was beautiful. God bless her, Aryan and Suhana. I wish them all the best.” Jahnavi does have an Instagram profile, but she prefers to stay away from social media and rarely posts anything on the platform. Here’s the case for other possibilities. The Thanksgiving traditions started by the Pilgrims in Massachusetts in 1621 are what most Americans follow. But history shows a celebration to give thanks occurred in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619. Not only that, 56 years earlier than the Puritan Pilgrims’ gathering, 800 Spanish settlers who founded the city of St. Augustine celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving along with members of the Seloy tribe. In St. Augustine, according to the National Park Service, it could have been cocido, a stew made with salted pork, garbanzo beans and garlic seasoning, accompanied by hard sea biscuits and red wine. If the Seloy contributed to the meal from their food stores, the menu could have included turkey, venison, gopher tortoise, mullet, drum, sea catfish, corn, beans and squash. There are other accounts of thanksgiving celebrations predating the Pilgrims by the French settlers in Florida. An early French account dates to 1564, when persecuted Huguenot settlers celebrated in Northern Florida. A year later the French settlement was wiped out by the Spanish. When the first settlers arrived in Jamestown in April 1607 and raised a cross at Cape Henry, claiming the land for England, they may have had a thanksgiving predating their first known observance in 1619. In that year, Berkeley Hundred was settled, one of a number of plantations granted by the Virginia Co. of London to its stockholders. Prior to leaving England in September 1619, ship Capt. John Woodlief received instructions from investors that included these words: “That the day of our ships arrival at the place assigned for plantacon in the land of Virginia shall be yearly and perpetually kept holy as a day of thanksgiving to Almighty god.” On Dec. 4, 1619, Woodlief’s ship checked in at Jamestown, the colony’s capital, where a mostly religious thanksgiving ceremony was held, after which the ship sailed up the James River about 30 miles. The Berkeley Hundred plantation was not around long after a growing number of native Powhatan tribal members went to war and drove the settlers out in March 1622. Jamestown: Traveling aboard the ships Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery, 104 men landed in Virginia in 1607 at a place they named Jamestown. It was the first permanent English settlement in the New World. Plymouth: Thirteen years later, 102 settlers aboard the Mayflower landed in Massachusetts at a place they named Plymouth. Jamestown: Economic motives prompted colonization in Virginia. The Virginia Co., organized in 1606, sponsored the Virginia Colony. Organizers of the company wanted to expand English trade and obtain a wider market for English manufactured goods. They naturally hoped for profit from their investment in shares of company stock. Plymouth : Freedom from religious persecution motivated the Pilgrims to leave England and settle in Holland, where there was more religious freedom. However, after a number of years the Pilgrims felt that their children were being corrupted by the liberal Dutch lifestyle and were losing their English heritage. News of the English colony in Virginia motivated them to leave Holland and settle in the New World. Jamestown: Inexperience, unwillingness to work and a lack of wilderness survival skills led to bickering, disagreements and inaction at Jamestown. Poor relations with tribes, disease and the initial absence of the family unit compounded the problems. Plymouth: Cooperation and hard work were part of the Pilgrims’ lifestyle. Nevertheless, they too were plagued with hunger, disease and environmental hazards. Jamestown: The settlers were members of the Church of England. Plymouth: The Pilgrims were dissenters from the Church of England and established the Puritan or Congregational Church. In 1619, the first representative legislative assembly in the New World met at the Jamestown church. Since New England was outside the jurisdiction of Virginia’s government, the Pilgrims established a self-governing agreement of their own, the Mayflower Compact. Jamestown: On Dec. 4, 1619, settlers stepped ashore at Berkeley Hundred along the James River and, in accordance with company investors’ instructions, celebrated their first official thanksgiving. Plymouth: In the fall of 1621, the Pilgrims held a celebration to give thanks to God for his bounty and blessings. This occasion was the origin of the traditional Thanksgiving as we know it. Mohammad Kazem Al-e Sadeq, Iran's ambassador in Baghdad, highlighted Iraq's robust security capabilities during an interview with Baghdad Al-Youm. He praised Iraq’s military readiness, noting the significant role played by the Iraqi Army, Iraq’s Hashd al-Sha’abi (Popular Mobilization Units), and other security forces in maintaining national stability. “Iraq possesses a comprehensive range of security and military forces capable of confronting the most dangerous terrorist and armed groups. With the presence of the army, the PMU, and counter-terrorism forces, there is no reason for concern,” Al-e Sadeq stated confidently. However, the ambassador warned that if terrorist groups target Iraq’s cities or its religious sanctities, the situation would demand immediate and decisive action. “Defending Iraq and its sanctities is both a duty and an obligation. Iran will take all necessary steps to support Iraq in such a scenario,” he said. Al-e Sadeq also reiterated Iran's broader commitment to Iraq's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, emphasizing the importance of collaboration to combat any threats posed by terrorism. “Iran will never allow terrorism to attack Iraq. Together with the Iraqi people, we will confront these threats,” he added, referencing Iran’s past statements advocating for Iraq’s stability and unity. In addition, the ambassador expressed concern about the escalating situation along Iraq’s shared border with Syria. He noted that Baghdad has intensified efforts to secure its border in response to recent developments in Syria, where armed groups have gained influence and undermined governmental authority. “The situation along the borders has raised concerns, and Iraq is now working to bolster its defenses against any potential spillover from the Syrian conflict,” Al-e Sadeq explained.FlexShopper Reminds Right Holders of Early Subscription Process Cutoff Dates

John Parker Romo made a 29-yard field goal to lift the Minnesota Vikings to a 30-27 overtime win against the host Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon. Romo buried the game-winning kick in his third career game for Minnesota (9-2), which won its fourth game in a row. The score capped a 10-play, 68-yard drive for the Vikings after the Bears went three-and-out on the first overtime possession. Sam Darnold completed 22 of 34 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Vikings. Wideout Jordan Addison finished with eight catches for a career-high 162 yards and a touchdown. The overtime defeat spoiled an impressive performance from rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who completed 32 of 47 passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns for Chicago (4-7). D.J. Moore had seven catches for 106 yards and a touchdown, and Keenan Allen finished with nine catches for 86 yards and a score. Chicago erased an 11-point deficit in the final 22 seconds of regulation to send the game to overtime. Romo had put Minnesota on top 27-16 when he made a 26-yard field goal with 1:56 remaining in the fourth quarter. Williams trimmed the Bears' deficit to 27-24 with 22 seconds to go. He rolled right and found Allen wide open in the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown, and moments later he fired a strike to Moore for a two-point conversion. The Bears recovered an onside kick on the next play to regain possession at their 43-yard line with 21 seconds left. Cairo Santos' onside kick bounced off the foot of Vikings tight end Johnny Mundt, and Tarvarius Moore recovered it. D.J. Moore put the Bears in field-goal position with a 27-yard reception across the middle of the field, and Santos made a 48-yarder as time expired to even the score at 27-all. Minnesota led 24-10 after three quarters. Romo made a 40-yard field goal early in the third quarter, and Aaron Jones punched in a 2-yard run with 1:22 left in the period to put the Vikings on top by two touchdowns. Addison and Jalen Nailor each had receiving touchdowns in the first half for Minnesota. Roschon Johnson scored on a 1-yard run for the Bears' only touchdown of the first half. Chicago trailed 14-10 at the break. --Field Level MediaJust a fraction of the hydrogen hidden beneath Earth's surface could power Earth for 200 years, scientists findInvesting in dividend stocks when prices are down is a strategy that’s not just about getting a bargain. It’s about amplifying your returns. Imagine spotting a coveted item on sale at your favourite store: not only do you pay less, but you get the same quality product. Now, imagine that this product comes with a feature that grows in value the less you pay. That’s exactly what happens with dividend stocks. When a stock’s price falls, its yield increases, offering savvy investors a better return for every dollar invested. It’s the financial equivalent of a double win, and ( ) is a shining example of why this approach works. Why Nutrien? Nutrien is a global leader in agricultural solutions, providing crop nutrients and services to farmers around the world. Currently, its stock is trading at $68.07 per share on the TSX, down from its 52-week high of $83.14. While this decline might concern some, it’s an enticing opportunity for dividend investors. Why? Because Nutrien’s forward annual dividend rate of $2.99 now yields approximately 4.34%. That’s significantly higher than its five-year average yield of 3.45%. In simple terms, you’re getting more income for less investment. It’s like grabbing the last discounted item on a shelf before everyone else realizes it’s on sale. Digging into Nutrien’s recent financials shows why the stock is still a strong contender. In the third quarter of 2024, Nutrien reported adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of $1 billion, thus underscoring its ability to remain profitable despite market challenges. Sure, earnings were lower year over year, but this is part of the cyclical nature of the agricultural sector. Nutrien’s potash segment, a cornerstone of its business, delivered record sales volumes of 11.1 million tonnes in the first nine months of the year. This performance prompted Nutrien to revise its full-year potash sales guidance upward to 13.5 to 13.9 million tonnes — a sign of confidence in its operational strength. Beyond its core financials, Nutrien’s shareholder-focused initiatives make it particularly attractive. The dividend stock has consistently returned value to investors through dividends and share repurchases. In the second half of 2024 alone, Nutrien repurchased 1.5 million shares for about $75 million. This buyback program reduces the number of outstanding shares, effectively increasing the value of each remaining share. Combine that with a steady dividend payout, and it’s clear Nutrien prioritizes its investors, even in tougher times. Looking ahead What makes Nutrien especially intriguing is its proactive approach to navigating market conditions. The dividend stock committed to achieving approximately $200 million in annual consolidated savings by 2025, a target it expects to reach ahead of schedule. These cost-saving measures, coupled with its strong market presence, position Nutrien for continued resilience and growth. Another factor in Nutrien’s favour is its valuation. The dividend stock’s forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 12.50 is considerably lower than many of its peers, suggesting the stock may be undervalued. For long-term investors, this represents an opportunity to buy into a market leader at a discount. Coupled with the higher yield resulting from the stock’s recent price dip, this makes Nutrien a compelling option for both and income-focused portfolios. Looking ahead, Nutrien’s focus on operational efficiency and market expansion provides a clear growth trajectory. The dividend stock’s strategic initiatives, including enhancing its digital agriculture offerings and expanding its retail network, are designed to capture market share and drive profitability. These moves align with broader trends in the industry, such as the increasing adoption of technology in farming and the push for sustainable agricultural practices. Foolish takeaway Buying dividend stocks like Nutrien while they’re down isn’t just like getting a deal. It’s like getting an upgraded version of your favourite product at a lower price. You secure a higher yield, position yourself for future appreciation, and invest in a dividend stock that’s committed to rewarding its shareholders. Nutrien’s strong fundamentals, shareholder-focused strategies, and promising industry outlook make it a standout choice. So, while the market may be looking elsewhere, this is your chance to grab a gem at a bargain and enjoy the dividends.Solid Biosciences Added to the Nasdaq Biotechnology Index
